Calculate a value using values in preceding or subsequent records

I have a field containing total sales. What I would like to do is
create a new field that would show the difference in sales from either
the preceding or next record. I know this could be accomplished easily
in Excel but I would like to do it in Access if possible. I guess in a
general sense, how do I reference a value in another record to be used
in the current record. Thanks
