Access databases with same contents, but different in size

Hi,

I have 2 .mdb files - Deck1 and Deck2 and both contain same information and pictures. But when I see the size of the files I found Deck1.mdb has 8.5 MB of size, whereas Deck2.mdb has got 16 MB. I just do not found the difference. Please help me to overcome the situation.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

Try Options -> Database Utilities -> Compact/Repair Database

I think PEB's suggestion will do the job. When developing an app, many objects are created then deleted. Until the app is compacted, these objects, while not a functional part of the DB, are still "present." When Access looks at the total numer of controls on a form, for example, it counts controls that have been deleted. When a DB is copied, which is how I assume you came to have two identical DBs, these deleted items are not included.

It is the data in Access that gets compacted. Deleted records remain on the physical disk. Compacting removes them

There could also be things such as indexes, or even other (perhaps unused) tables, which are not present in the smaller database.

It all depends, of course, on whether compacting resolves the difference. If not, we need to look for an actual difference.
