Uploading Large Files

Hi,

In my application users have the ability to upload large pdf files from
their laptop to our servers.

To move the files I use the Name method

Name c:\myfile.pdf as k:\myfilepdf

My problem is two fold

Firstly the application looks like it's hanging and the user many times
ends up closing the application. Would this be a good place for
DoEvents? If so, where would I put it?

an secondly, is there a way to track the file upload process so that i
can create some homemade progress bar?

thanks!
Paul

That's the way Name is: one statement copies the entire file, and the
app is not responsive while it's doing it.
Doevents will not help for an atomic statement like this.

You can use a progress bar - heck, even the one built into Access (see
SysCmd) if you copy the file yourself in code: in a loop copy 4Kb
chunks at a time, each time refreshing the statusbar. Read up on how
to copy a binary file using VBA. If you use SysCmd, you don't even
need DoEvents to see the progress bar advance.
