Append

P: 1
I have created a DB with three related tables; Vendors, PartNum, and Asset Data. I use this to keep track of parts sent to repair. Vendor to PartNum is one-to-many and PartNum to Asset Data is one-to-many. Occasionally vendors are changed which would require me to update the vendor and part number tables. I need to be able to keep the old data with all the original information. My fear is if i change vendors it will change all the historical data to reflect the new vendor when in fact the part went to the old vendor.

I was thinking and append query might do the trick. But can you do an append query from multiple tables into a single record on a new table?

INSERT INTO tableName (Field1, Field2, etc.)
SELECT Field1, Field2, etc
FROM Vendor LEFT JOIN
(PartNum LEFT JOIN [Asset Data]
ON PartNum.ID=[Asset Data].ID)
ON Vendor.ID=PartNum.ID;
