Using Like on a MEMO field

I have read many posts on this, and it says it is possible. For some reason I cannot figure it out.

I am in Access 2003 SP3

Query i am using

select *
from aotw_application
where aotw_num LIKE "*application*"

I get no records returned. I know that application is in the memo fields and should return mulitple results.

Thanks fro your help in advance. this is driving me nuts.
