Update a table from multiple forms

Hi,

I am helping with the build of our database but I am in the UK and the other guy is in the US so it is quite hard to get things done!!!

Basically we have a database with loads of tables in and a form, what I am trying to do is whenever the form is filled in and saved it automatically updates a specific table with that information. Now the other guy is running 15 - 20 people on a different database and he can sit there and watch a form in datasheet view and watch the updates happen.

When I fill in a form I have to close Access and then re open it to see the change on the table. Now this doesn't work as we need to have a live database so we can check records at any time of the day with out opening and closing access all the time.

I don't claim to know anything about access so please (if you can help) keep it as simple as possible.

Any pointers ?

Thanks

Gareth

Build a datasheet form based on your system log table.

Append to the code that populates this table.

[Forms]![NewFormName].Requery

What records are the form you're accessing your data based on.

Are you seeing the actual record added or just a message saying that a record has been added?

If I get someone to fill in the form and I am watching the table, when they save the record I want to see it appear on the table , but I have to close the table then re-open it to see the changes, how can I make the table update in real time ?

A table is locked to editing when its open.

Create a form of the table and open in datasheet view. The updates may not be instant but you should get to see them.

I usually use the 'Remove Filter/Sort' option from the Records menu when I need a requery done.
You could try the 'Refresh' option from the same menu but I'm not sure that will enable you to see new records or to lose deleted ones.

Bear in mind for the 'Remove Filter/Sort' option, that it will effect any sorting or filtering you have applied ;-).
