Open .eml as read-only

I apologise in advance for reposting this in a second newsgroup...

Hello,

I have used the API code from:
http://www.mvps.org/access/api/api0001.htm
to "attach" a file to a record. I.E. store the filename and location in

a record.
I then use another button and hyperlink using the above information and

open the file.
Is it possible to then open the file, in this case a saved email, as
read-only. Mostly, to allow multiple people to view the "attachment"
and to also prevent any changes.
I appreciate your time in looking at this.
