save old and new value from combo box to 2 different tables

P: 27
I am fairly new to VB and Access, but I do have some old training in C++ and BASIC.

I have an access database that stores the status of an item as a number. I have a form where you can update that status in both a text box and a combo box.

However, I want to save new status number to the main table(lets call that main table, and this is easy and working), but save the new and old status numbers to a different table(lets say ID table).

in ID table, i would like the format to be:

date, status 1, status 2, status 3

so that on each day, when an item is at status 1, and moved to status 2, the status 1 field for a particular date is incremented by one.

ex. of ID table status 1 status 2 status 3
10/9/2006 1 2 1
10/10/2006 2 2 3
10/11/2006 1 2 3

i've tried looking through the help files for differnet commands to help do this, and trying to use vb code to access the alternate table. however, it says that i cannot do that or that it can't find the id table when the form is using the main table.

i'm having a very hard time doing this, and would appreciate any help!
