Starting with Microsoft Access

Hello. Can anyone point in the right direction to get started with Access Programming. I have previous Knowledge of programming and i am looking for something, be it ebook, printed page or other, that will help me with the command set and methods required to deal with forms etc.
It is hard to describe exactly what i need to find as this varies depending on what project i am playing with.
But it is not the method of doing it rather finding how to preen the information from access, for instance how can i check what controls are on a form, select to check only those that use a text entry (ignore labels, drop downs etc), and check them from a global routine ( pass the found parameters to a global/public routine)

thanks
