Finding Empty Field Values And Red Flagging Them

153 100+
Hi, I really need some help here because I am not a programmer but I took on the task because I'm an intern and wanted to rise up to the challenge...and all that crap...anyways over the past few days I have gotten familiar enough with access to be able to take an excel data sheet into access, cut serial numbers down to their basic numbers so for example if it's MSX19928394Y2K I can cut it down to 19928394 and compare it to the asset number which is exactly that number...so from there I have been able to create relationships and so I have organized tables that will basically look like (Last Name, First Name, Asset Tag, Serial Number, Serial Number 2)...Both serial numbers are the same when I cut them down so those do not pose a problem and I have everything working fine...the problem is that I can't seem to figure out, for the life of me, how I can read through each of these rows and see where there is a missing value in any field. Is there some basic format to writing a module that checks each column for an empty string or integer? If there is could I red-flag the value by setting the backround color of the cell or, even better, could I create an independent integer for each row that equals -1 for every row that is missing single or multiple values? If I could do that I could just set the resulting value as the primary key so all the problematic rows would end up on top of the resulting form. Well anyways...I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer me. I'm currently helpless. I'm familiar with a couple of languages from high school classes I've taken in the past but the only programming language I've even remotely used within the past couple years has been for programming with MIDI.
Please help.
Thanks.

Hi my frien, First welcome to Access!

So this You can do as a very simple way!

See your database window, there is an item which is named queries...Click on it!

Choose Query Design, and select your table that you want to check for empty fields...

Chouse * from your table and click on it 2 times... It appears on the grid bellow!

Choose the column that you want to verify...

In the criteria row under this column

type:

is null

on a separate row bellow this
""

Select the bouton on the left top part of the screen which is labeled datasheet view!

So those are the records with empty values in the respective column.

Hope this helps!

:)

Best regards!
