How to make Access fil read only!

Hi

I have a access file that need to be made to read only. And the file
should be password protected if I want to edit something. So those who
doesn't have the password can only read.

I don't know access at all so I don't have a clue help pls

Many thanks

You would have to use Access security to do this (advanced topic that most
people screw up).

If administrative edits are rare, you could just put the file in a shared
folder on the LAN and only grant read permissions to the folder. The problem
with this is that once a read only person is in the file then even a user
with edit permissions on the folder will not be able to make edits unless
they first make all read only users exit the file. However; that is always
the case when the administrator has to perform other maintenance tasks on
the file so (again) if edits would be rare then this is not such a big deal.

I am trying to do this for someone...obviously I am not better since it
not working lol.

But I don't think that that would be enough though, cause multible
people may have to access the file(as read only) at once from many
different locations and the admin still has to be able to edit the file
without having to wait.

And yes I guess that Access security is the only way, and yeah it is
advanced and I have screwed it up a few times...

any ideas as to where I can finde a guide or something that can help me
do this?

thanks
