How to stop a running query? esc, crtl+break do not work

I'm using Access 2003

If Esc and Ctrl+Break don't work, it probably means it's a particularly
complex query that's working very hard. If Access is processing things in
the background using its own hidden tables, it won't get back to checking
the keyboard untill if finishes a particular step. Sometimes this step can
take hours (yes, I've written queries that do that). If you don't want to
wait, or it really is stuck, the only alternative is to crash Access. Do a
Compact and Repair when you get back in. Hopefully, you've not lost any
data.
