Importing spreadsheet into existing table

I'm trying to import data from an Excel spreadsheet into a table that
has already been created (it's from a database template for the company
I'm working for). It doesn't seem to want to bring it into the existing
table, and that option is greyed out in the dialog box. Do I have to
unlink to table from other tables before doing this operation.

Please help.

What happens if you create a link to the spreadsheet (file, get
external data, switch to Excel as file type, select the Excel file),
and then create an append query? Does that work?
