Using user logon info to populate a field

Hi. I'm new to this group and just to warn you, I am not fluent in VB. I'm a wizard junkie :( . I manage a self developed split database with user level security applied. I would like to automatically populate a field [User] with the username of the individual logged on. Is there a simple way to do this so I can identify who is responsible for incomplete records created in the table?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this will work or not. I'm assuming your login screen is a form in the database. Have this form's Record Source point to the table that you want to store the username in. Then, for the Control Source of the login username (which I assume is a textbox or a combobox), use the field USER.

Then, have the form start on a new record every time somebody logs in (this can be done with code or with a macro).

Hope this works.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the login box is not a form I have created and therefore I wouldn't know how to use it as a control source. It pops up automatically when the database is opened and I assume the user information is stored in the workgroup file. I know the data gets stored somewhere, because when opened, the username control displays the last user that was logged on. Any other ideas??
