Saving records to multiple tables.

P: 15
I am new to access. with the help available online i was able to do the basics for the DB which contains all the info about the equipment in the company. now i have created a history table in which i want to add the privious and new state of equipment whenever there is a modification in the orignal record table. that is the data in the edit form before and after modification. how is this possible that with the same button, i can update the orgnal record and save the two (modified and unmodified) copies in the history table. Early help needed. please reply soon.

Can you provide more information on what it is you are trying to do? Also, include table names, relationships between tables, and primary keys.

I m building the data base for all the communication equipment in the company which has arround 70 fields all over the country. so the equipment is distributed. my tables are Field_Locations, Equipment_Makers, Equipment_Types, Equipment_record, Equipment_historyA and Equipment_historyB. (i will explain history tables later). All these tables have the primery key of index(Autonumber).
Field_Locations, Equipment_Makers, Equipment_Types have relationships with Equipment_record (records contain these details).
I m done with all the tables, queries, forms and reports and the DB works fine. i can edit, add and delete records and modify any details i want to modify in the record. Now the thing is that i want to keep the record of any modification in the Equipment_record table. that is when the modification form opens, i want to save the record (which is to be modified after some time) in Equipment_historyA at index (let us say) X, and when the record modification is complete, i want to save this modified record in the Equipment_record table and a copy of it in the Equipment_historyB at the index X (same as Equipment_historyA index). So that later i can pick same indexes of 2 tables and observe that what modifications were made in which record at what time and date.
i m having problems in the BOLD area. i hope i provided all the required details. if u need more explaination, i m here. ur concern is appriciated.

Omar, not sure that I understood what you are doing. I'm not expert but seems like you would need an append query. I think that by doing this you would append the info you want into a different table. Every time you make a change you do this append (that would create a new record in your new table) thus keeping track of every modification.
Hope this help.
