Hello all. Working on a new db to track tasks for our buildings. Mostly happy with my progress (first db), but have a few minor issues, and need some advice... First, the problems...
We have 27 servers that have tape drives. They each run M - F. We need to track the status of the backup jobs. Have a table / form, all that is fine, I can run a report for Pass or Fail, all is fine. The problem comes when I have to show the ones that were NOT filled out. I used a "Find Unmatched Query" for another report, but this has multiple instances of both the date and server names, so unless there is a day where no data was entered, or there was a server that had no data entered for a month, the unmatched won't work. Any thoughts?
Also, any idea how to skip weekends? The backups run M - F, so there will be no info on the weekend. I'd prefer them to NOT be on the report if possible...
I did try the crosstab query, and that worked fairly well, giving me a "table" with server names and dates on the axis, and Pass / Fail / Blank in the middle. I tried to run a report off of that query, and it didn't work very well. The table works OK, but I'm looking for more of a list of "this was NOT done" rather than making management pick the data out of a table and possibly missing something.
On to the advice... I have been using a naming convention for my queries / tables / forms, etc, but they aren't right (ie, Server Name Q). Does anyone have a list of the "proper naming convention" for components of a DB? What are the consequences of changing the names of the components now? Will the linked objects update automatically?
Thanks all, have a great day! Jef
