Help with report templates

I saved a report as the default template in Microsoft Access. Now when
I try to create a new report in design view it opens the template, I
can see it and then it disappears leaving me a blank grid and a little
window of field codes. How do I get the template to stay up so I can
run the report? Pulling the field codes into a new report is just as
time consuming as creating it from scratch. What am I doing wrong with
the template? Why is it disappearing?

Thanks,

Rufus
