Will someone please remind me of a keyword to search
A97 HELP for the topic(s) covering details of how I can
read values from any of the fields in record currently selected
in a combo-box.
For example, say a combo box has a fairly lengthy RowSource
property setting and displays 3 columns and the 4th bound field
has Width=0 so it doesn't display. Suppose user chooses the
4th row in the listbox portion of the combo box and - in addition
to the combobox value - I wish to read the first, second and
third column values for the selected record.
I forgot the relevant syntax & need a reminder. 6 1384

I've said this elsewhere, but I find that asking google
something like
"combobox object" A97
will find relevant information a lot more reliably than trying
to use the Microsoft internal help. It will usually find the
relevant A97 page as well as posts from experts offering help on
various fora. It's rare to have a problem that someone else
hasn't faced before.
I see that one of our resident experts, salad, has already
answered your specific question.

Did the trick! Many thanks.

Microsoft managers have never worked in the real world. Most of their
programmers are direct from school and are nerds...like the Binaries on
StarTrek. So they show something cool to the idiot managers and they
piss their pants with the awesome stuff coming from their star
programmer. Thus they put out something that resembles toilet paper
that's been used...for example...their help system.
The best help system I've ever seen is Sybases SQL Server system.
But Microsoft is a trendsetter. They have the muscle. So I'm sure
they'll take their helpless help system to new heights in the
future...the idiot savant programmer wowing the moronic manager in
charge of a project.
Personally, all MS people working on the help systems should put a
bullet through their brain. It would save people countless man hours
searching the unsearchable and they would be doing the world a favor for
accepting money to work on trash. I mean...how low can you go? I see that one of our resident experts, salad, has already answered your specific question. --thelma

I miss the days when MS products had PAPER manuals. At least they
existed... now they're sparse at best. How about having an English
major and a librarian help them write manuals that are complete, plain
English, and searchable/indexed... Wait, what am I thinking!!!! pi********@hotmail.com wrote: Personally, all MS people working on the help systems should put a bullet through their brain. Paper manuals? You're showing your age. :-)
I know I am harsh in my assessment of their help system(s). I really,
really do not like them. After seeing Sybase's help system I knew MS
could do much better.
People like us don't have much power or sway at MS. I have to assume
that power users at large companies like Ford, GM, Martin-Marietta,
Boeing and others with their clout either like the help system or don't
complain. Until they make a fuss, we are stuck with MS's offerings. This thread has been closed and replies have been disabled. Please start a new discussion. Similar topics
