adding an auto field to an access table

I have two tables with similar but not identical fields. Table one has 26 fields and table 2 has 28 fields. I wanted to add a field "type" to each one of these tables and have it automatically fill the type (data) i.e. table 1 will include type R and table 2 will include type M

You probably want to go into each of your tables and configure the field "type" with a default entry- If I understand your table structure correctly, that may solve your problem. Good luck!

Your explanation is very vague. When you say you want to automatically fill in data, how exactly do you want to do that. Obviously you have to tell it somewhere to put those values into the tables (query, form, etc).

A little more detail could be required here. Do you have just one form opening, and you want the value to be selected from that form? Are the forms for each table being opened separately, and when the form closes you want the values to be entered into the table?

Also, there seems to be a lot of fields in your tables. Could you give a little more detail on what this database is for, and what are all these fields? I'm wondering if there is a different way to set up your tables.
