The way I do it is to design the splash screen as a form, with the
form.timer set to 3000 (milliseconds). the form's OnTimer Event
sets the timer to 0 (off), opens the application's main form, and
hides itself or exits.

If it's hidden, you can refer to controls on it in code. Mine
usually have "Welcome " & username & ", it's " & now() so I can run
automatic logoff's for inactivity, and other background things.
