Importing Excel to Access Date/Time Format erroring

I've written a vba module that takes several .csv files and imports
them all into access using a pre-defined specification.

All is good if I set the spec up to import the following as text:

4/28/2006 11:44:13 AM

I really need to get this into access as a date where i can do
calculations to the second. It would be too much work to reformat all
the excel files as it would defeat the purpose of automating the
process in vba.

Any thoughts?

If you import to an existing table, you can add an extra column
to contain the converted datetime and run an update query after
the import.
