Recently I mentioned that Internet Explorer 7 Beta zapped SQL Server 2005
BOL. Well, OK, it says IE 6.0 so I'm cool with that.
But then there's the Avant browser. I suppose it's not MS so why am I
blaming them. Well, they're handy! When it's installed and made the default
browser it becomes the default application for http, htm etc of course.
When you make another browser the default browser you might expect it will
be come the default application for these file types, protocols. Wrong!
Avant inserts a line into the registry for each, so even when it's not
longer the default browser it remains the default applications for these
things. AND it opens with the message that it isn't the default browser!
Arggggggggghhh! Hello Avant. Good bye Avant!
And then there's the new Windows Defender Beta. It insists on mistaking the
Copernic Desktop Search Engine for the Indexing Service Daemon and shutting
it down because it's a baddie. It leads off to a dialog where one can say
the Indexing Service Daemon is OK! Great. But it's no help. In its OK code
it doesn't recognize Copernic and the Indexing Service Daemon, but in its
not OK code it does. Good bye Windows Defender. (Last Post sounds ...)
So I've tried Explorer 7 beta, Avant, and Windows Defender Beta. They're
all betas so what am I complaining about? Really, I shouldn't be.
But maybe my little tales of woe will help you form having the same
frustrations.
(What do I use? Why the immensely popular K-Meleon, of course. Why? Because
it's super fast and it can be totally beaten into submission (you know, the
novel idea that an application should do what the USER WANTS!) by anyone
who knows JavaScript, has the patience of Job, and the detective skills of
Dick Tracy.)
blah blah blah ... I think I need to start a blog ...
