Is the server having problems, or am I?

Ron
Hi All,

It's taking a long, LONG time for me to see a post from here (and other NGs
too, for that matter--which is why I think it may be me...). Sometimes it
takes 2-3 minutes after clicking the post for me to be able to read it. And
sometimes, it never comes up..instead I get "Message is no longer available
on the server".

Also, like right now, it's almost 9:30am and most recent post I can see was
sent at about 2am.

So, anyone else having problems reading the posts and responses here, or is
it just me? Maybe it's my ISP?

Thanks
ron

I had this problem when CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) put a
24-7 tap on my internet connection. What would that be in the USA, the CIA
or Homeland Security? It went away when Mike Harris was defeated and the
neighbours enjoyed the additional parking when those big black Lincolns
stopped hanging around.
Anyway, it's nothing to worry about.

Before Homeland Security, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was for
spying in other countries and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
was for domestic spying. Then the line got blurred. Then 9/11
happened. Then the Department of Homeland Security happened. Now
there is no line :-).

My machine is so slow that the spyware programs on my system have to
fight against each other to get timely information :-).

To the OP:
Ask your ISP about it. Sometimes my posts here show up in about 20
seconds. Sometimes they take five hours or more (rare). Do your
emails take a long time to get transmitted?

Boy, nice to have you 2 guys around. Otherwise, I would have thought it was
just some kinda computer problem...but now I can worry about the NSA, FBI,
CIA, HSA, IBM, MSA, LOL, and/or LMAO.

Actually, after posting I got to thinking I'd have to wait till about 2 or 3
this afternoon to even see that post let alone whatever responses, so
contacted earthlink. It had been going slow for me since mid-afternoon
yesterday, and sure enough, it was them, and it's all fixed now. Well,
"all" being a relative term, as it's now only loading posts since May 1.
But at least I know not to spend any time worrying about NG connections.

Now, if I can just find someone who can test for internet connection
taps....

Thanks for the replies!

I see you have earthlink too. I contacted them 3 times yesterday about
it. Since none of the tech supports use newsgroups, not a one had a
clue. One was so clueless I wondered how he had a support job with them.

I'm glad to see it's just not me, but another earthlink person has a
similar problem.

I'd recommend you bitch to Earthlink.

I'm glad you found the problem. At home I used to use NeoTrace before
I stopped connecting to the internet from there. The mapping feature
makes me feel like I'm in a movie :-). I caught someone spying on my
machine from Israel and someone else from a drilling platform in the
Pacific. I sent their ISP's a curt but polite email asking them to
investigate.

It was funny when I was talking to this spectacularly clueless rep at
Earthlink. Somehow he confused usenet with the www, told me I was
imagining it, and that via http://www.speakeasy.com's speed tests I was
getting great DL speeds. I told him that was irrelevent...my email was
quick, my web was quick, microsoft.news was quick, only earthlink
newsgroups were slow. So he went on a rant about microsoft.news having
the best and fastest servers in the world and that earthlink's servers
were old and jaded.

I basically think that earthlink outsources their newsgroup
functionality and unless people bitch they'll assume everything is
running ok.

I did bitch to EarthLink, and finally the problem has been resolved.
Although even after I sent the response before this on saying it was solved,
I still had problems. But, just tried again and everything appears to work
(so far). Heck, I can see posts as late as 3:47 now! Used to be, though,
I'd get them almost immediately. Still, better than it was almost all day
yesterday and most of today.

Oh, well... lots of reading to catch up on now.

Thanks for all the responses everyone!
