Sending emails from Access - problems with Microsoft Exchange and vbSendMail.dll

Hello World:

I'm trying to build an application (using Access 2003) that will allow users
who have to perform tasks in a particular order, to notify the next person
in line when their task is complete. I'm trying to have the application
send an email to the next person upon task completion. I looked over the
info concerning emailing and Access at Tony Toews' site (thanks for that,
Tony).

I finally came up with some Visual Basic code from FreeVBCode.com, which is
a VB6 project that produces vbSendMail.dll. This dll uses Winsock to do its
work. The dll is so simple, and works so well from Access when I do it from
home.

When I try it against our Microsoft Exchange server at work, however, it
just fails. The big problem seems to be in capturing the SMTP Host
correctly. I have the guaranteed correct name of our Exchange SMTP Host
from our Exchange Admin. The MXQuery utility that comes with vbSendMail
verifies the SMTP Host name. We are using the standard Port 25. But it
doesn't find the Exchange SMTP Host.

Does anyone out there have any experience with emailing from Access inside
of a Microsoft Exchange email system? Does anyone have any idea why the dll
can't find the SMTP Host? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Alan
