Database size - 2GB!

Hi all,
I created a database to do some web log analysis. I initially imported
all the data, which amounted to approx 1 million records. This resulted
in a 2GB database which was a little slow.

To enable me to create the reports and test them in a reasonable time,
I copied and pasted the database and removed 95% of the data. However
the size is identical to the original.

What gives?

TIA

That sounds like it should work. However, I just get an "invalid
argument" error. :(
This is starting to sound like a symptom of another problem.

try compacting the database while it is closed, not open.

You could open a new database and import into it everything from your
original database.
file->get external data->import
