using a query field as a control source to a text box

This should be most simple to do, and I am doing it elsewhere in the
very same form, but for some reason it is not working in this case.

My form uses a query as its Record Source.

In the form view, I simply want to append some text to the view of
this field in the form using the control source.

The field name is: artist.
This works fine for the control source: artist
This gives an error: =[artist] & " and some text"
I also get an error with just =[artist]

I'd be curious to know if I am forgetting something fundamental to
this or if there is possibly an underlying problem.

I am doing this exact thing with a different field of the same query
in this very same form without any problems.

Best regards,
Chas

nothing that deleting and recreating the text box didn't correct...
problem solved.

I have noticed that in general if I create a control by dragging an item
from the field list onto a form, and then I try to manually change the
control source, it crashes.

Then it was probably related to the fact that I did drag from the
field list. Perhaps also that it was a bound text box. I cannot
recall for the life of me, but I thought i read some where that to use
the control source in the way that I am, the text box should be
unbound, which is what I went with the second time i created it.

Thank you,
Chas
