Software to compare tables in 2 MDBs and update the design of 1 basedon the other

P: n/a
I have an Access software app installed in 8 locations. Updates are
becomming very time consuming. Updating everything but the tables in
the backend is quite easy. The difficult part is comparing the backend
tables against the design of the latest version and applying changes -
field deletes, field adds, field changes, indices etc.

I have started writing code to automate this. Got fairly far along but
it is not trivial. Before investing more hours in debuggins, I would
like to find anything out there. FREE is great but software with a
reasonable fee would be of interest also.

Suggestions?

These seem very expensive for a trivial task?

If you made all your changes via dynamic SQL calls in VBA code in your
design front end, perhaps, you could just repeat those procedures. But
I think you have not done that and "you can't go back".

If I were faced with this I would consider sending out a new skelton
backend, (one with no data), and code (in the frontend) to append that
data from the old backend, rename the old backend (safety copy now) and
the new backend. I know the order of appends would be inportant because
of referential integrity but If I recall correctly one can just run
through the appends time after time (with On Error Resume Next) until
everything is appended. One can check recordcounts or whatever to
decide when to quit the loop. Of course, one needs indexes (my
preference) or code to prevent multiple appends of the same record.

Thank you very much Mike. I have downloaded it and will give it a try.

Of course, the price is right! <grin>

I haven't used the product, so of course, could not recommend for or against
it. But I know one of the principals of SSW and he's very knowledgeable. If
they have a free trial, it would probably be worth taking a look and making
your own decision based on the fit with your needs.

Mike's FREE software is very nice. I had a few unusual things in my
database and Mike was VERY responsive in diagnosing the problem and
providing immediate bug fixes.
