Multiple database problem in A2003

I have had a large application running in A97/W2000. The users usually
have at least 2 instances of the same program open at once, and to
start an new instance they simply click on the shortcut and another
opens - simple, no problem, works well.

Now I have converted them to A2003/XP and there is a problem. They
cannot create a new instance by clicking on the shortcut. All that
happens is that if the existing instance is minimized, then cliking the
shortcut just maximizes it. I also noticed that sometimes forms within
the application show on the task bar. This is annoying - all they want
to see is one item on the task bar for each instance, and to be able to
open multiple instances.

Can anyone help me understand this please, and can I solve it and give
the users what they want (which is the same as they used to have)

Thanks
Dave

Not sure how to get multiple instances, but to stop Access from showing
each window in the W2000 taskbar, use Access menu - Tools, Options, View,
then uncheck Windows in Taskbar.

Brilliant - thanks very much for that.

As for multiple instances, I have a kludge which involves 2 front ends
on each workstation and 2 shortcuts. So this enables them to open 2
instances. Best I could come up with

I am interested in WHY you would need to have more instances open of the same database?
Never had that need, only the need to prevent that.
I guess there are valid reasons for you?

It's a form of call centre. It takes a few minutes to fill in a record
after a call has finished, but if another call comes in they find it
easier to open another instance to deal with that call.

They sometimes used to have 3 or more instances open as well as
Outlook, Photoshop etc and would then moan at me when their machines
kept crashing. I used to wonder how I could restrict them to 2
instances but never solved it. Now under XP and 2003 I have the
solution !!

I understand now, thanks.

You could also open one ore more new instances of the same form I guess.
I must admit I never had the need to do so, but you might be interested at what Allen Browne says about that:
