Left(field,Numchar) or Right not found

I have this code in my query and I'm getting the message
"undefined function Left (or Right) in Expression"

AcctJulian: Left([Account],3)

I have looked on posts, and it seems this is the correct syntax. I
check references and made sure MS DAO 3.6 was checked off. Maybe
something else should be checked? Help - doesn't say.

Many thanks.

The command is actually a VBA command, but the query parser also recognizes
some VBA commands on its own. However, the reference with the problem may
not be the reference that is needed for this item. A bad reference can cause
errors in items other than what the bad reference is for.

For information on fixing Reference problems, see this link.

Got it - thanks.

I think what happened was that I didn't have the links to 3 external
databases in this test version, and once I linked them, all worked
fine.

Again, thanks. Happy New Year.
