form property for subform

I'm encountering an error on attempting to set the form to the subform on a
form

dim frm as form
set frm = forms!frmmainform!frmsubform

type Mismatch in above line
and hence I cannot do this:

rs=frm.recordsetlone.

You need to refer to the name of the suborm control, not the name of the
subform itself, like this:

Dim frm As Form
Set frm = Forms!frmMainForm!SubformControlName.Form
