A qiuestion for the community

I've recently joined several others in attempt to discourage Steve Santos
from advertising his PC Datasheet business on CDMA. Among the hundreds of
professional consultants who contribute to CDMA, Steve is the only one that
persistently violates the charter prohibition on advertising. I think
ignoring Steve's actions threatens the survival and continued success of
CDMA.

Despite his advertising, foul language and name calling, if a significant
percentage of the CDMA regulars would prefer that I stop, I will.

What do you think?

Damn !!
I see a post signed as StopTheAdvertising that is *not* posted by me.
Thread: Database design.
Not my sig (Arno R). Not my language (copy of Randy's message)

The follow-up (from PCDataSheet) ... ??) also seems a fake to me!

Might be someone is 'interfering' here.
And if so, I *do* have an idea who that is <sigh>.

So Steve: *IF* you received emails, did you bother to check the headers before accusing me?

Arno R
Nov 23 '05 #51

Sorry Arno, that was me. I changed the From to make it easy for regulars to
killfile it, but I forgot to add my sig to it. I will be sure to correct
that the next time.

I'm hoping to minimize the garbage posts. There is absolutely nothing that
any of us could post that would make Steve look as childish and
unprofessional as his own ravings. I intend to let him rant all he wants, my
postings will stop the instant his advertising does. This is essentially the
strategy suggested by Rick, David Fenton and a couple of others.

Ok, thanks Randy. For a moment I was afraid it was 'our local troll' who was impersonating me.
So I was even thinking that PC might *not* be lying about the office-emails ...
(Well, he has the opportunity to show them here... )

Suggestion for the 'From': "PleaseStopAdvertising"
IMO the one you just used was too much a lookalike. You even fooled me ;-)

I think it might be handy to know *who* posted *what* don't you think?
So if you would use "PleaseStopAdvertising" as your second identity I can use "StopThisAdvertising" as I am using for month's now.
Maybe others who will join us can use "StopAdvertisingNow" or similar.

If we would use the *same* alias it would be easy to killfile but...
Since I realy *hate* the impersonating that has happened here (and the aliases Steve still uses while asking questions) I think we have to use names that 'can tell who we are'. It is easy enough to killfile a few names.

Well what do you think?
Or maybe we better discuss this issue offline?
Nothing sneeky, but if you want, contact me.

For the moment I am considering to give Steve a break.
If he reverts to his old sig, of course I wil also stop to hunt him.
It is all up to him as he knows, or should know by now.

Hey, I've only just come across it :)

I like the original suggestion of posting just once to the thread so that the
original poster knows not to accept PC Datasheet's advice at face value. I
think links to somewhere else where someone can go to view the language,
tenor of discussion, etc - like sample threads, websites, etc - is also
important, so that the original poster doesn't have to take either person's
word for it, but can see the evidence for themselves. The idea is to make
sure new posters to the group are able to make fully informed decisions.

The automated response after every post is overkill, I think - I saw that in
another thread and it seems to be what PC Datasheet is foing in this one.

Any chance of adding others, such as Aaron Kempf, to this sort of list ;)

BTW I have no idea what this CDMA thing is and the agreement people sign up
to - I'm not very familiar with newsgroups at all, but hang out on here via
the AccessMonster web site, which does something similar to the Google groups,
I think...

not stupid at all
your interest to learn a language shows how smart you are!!!

bitch is used as both a noun and a verb
bitch originally meant a female dog (as far as I know)
then it came to be used to mean a female human with a "bad temper"
(slang)
then it came to be used as a verb - to complain (like what the female human
with the bad temper was doing)

I consider the later usage to be crude(rude) slang but it was there in the
online dictionary so i guess it's gotten citizenship by default

I don't think bitchfest is actually a word at all - it wasnt' in the online
dictionaries
just slang that gets passed around in informal usage and for english
speakers is probably more or less recognized as what it means even if it's
not an "official" word.

....so even though it's a "bad" word...and even though the rest of this whole
thread is a stupid waste of bandwidth...at least you actually learned
something from it!

Hold on -- my suggestion is to IGNORE the posts that bother you --
killfile the offender and let it be.

But, if you *insist* on posting responses to the newsgroup chiding
the offender for whatever it is that annoys you, use a different
email address. For most newsreaders, it doesn't matter if you use
the same email address as long as you vary the friendly name part of
it. And it doesn't even matter if you use a non-working email
address, as the purpose of it is to allow those of us who want to
clean out the pollution of the newsgroup to killfile that address so
we don't have to see it.

But, again, let me repeat that *I* would urge you all to just chill
out and not read the posts by the people who get your dander up, and
not respond to them at all. The situation is only *slightly*
different than the troll scenario that we went through a while back.
