m.News. EarthLink Members should use their best judgment when posting
to any newsgroup. Many groups have charters, published guidelines,
FAQs, or "community standards" describing what is and is not considered
appropriate. Usenet can be a valuable resource if used properly. The
continued posting of off-topic articles is prohibited. Commercial
advertisements are off-topic in most newsgroups, especially regional
groups not specifically named for such. The presence of such articles
in a group is not indicative of the group's "intended" use. Please
familiarize yourself with basic Usenet netiquette before posting to a
newsgroup.

Thank you for contacting the EarthLink Abuse Department.
Your ticket ID is AB0000000461696. Please include this number
in the "Subject:" of any subsequent e-mail regarding this issue.
************************************************** ***
This message was generated in response to an email appearing to
originate from your address and delivered to one of Earthlink's
administrative addresses, apparently concerning USENET abuse. This
may be the only reply you will receive, so please read this message
carefully. Due to the volume of email that we receive, we may not be
able
to respond individually to each message sent to this address,
and will likely only do so when additional information is required.
However, all reports we receive are investigated and action is taken
when and where it is appropriate.

It is important that your report to us include the message headers.
Please note that we cannot take action against an account without some
sort of direct evidence that our policies were violated by the alleged
offender.

Please note that our ticketing system does not process attachments.
Please
include all portions of your complaint/report as plain text within the
body of
your message.
Please remember that newsgroups are a public forum, and you have to
choose
to read a particular post. We recommend the use of a newsreader that
supports
killfile. This will allow you to filter your newsreading so that you
need never
see a post from a particular author or with a particular subject, etc.

This does not mean that spam and other newsgroup abuse should not
be reported, only that Earthlink will not involve itself in personal
disputes
and differences of opinion.

Earthlink's policy with respect to what the Company considers
inappropriate
activity on the part of Earthlink users.

I have no idea how effective this might be; I am simply following
Larry's suggestions (sooner or later it had to happen! :-)) about how
to deal effectively with contraventions of our charter, faq, published
guidelines or community standards.

**** and of course I don't want to be off topic so .....

I am in the process of moving and my development time is limited;
however you might want to contact me on either of these two matters:

1. Given time, which I do not have, I think using CDO I could build an
Access application that would automatically copy and report posts which
contravened our "charter, faq, published guidelines or community
standards" in a specific way. What's your opinion here?

2. Is there anyone who would like to join me in a cadre in "free help"
providers. We would regularly respond to advertising posts with one
saying something like:
If you can't get the help you need in the newsgroup try contacting
wh******@domain.com; if one of our group can help through direct e-mail
and consultation we will. Our group includes:

John Doe (experience and expertise)
etc

Yes, I know this would draw attention to advertising and fill the
newsgroup with more messages but as it is now we get many responses to
advertising; if we had a standard response, perhaps we would get fewer
in total. Again we would need a database to keep track of this, I'm
sure!!! so I think I am not totally off topic here.

****

Gee I hope earthlink is the right provider; i chose it randomly as an
example.
