Alpha-> Numeric conversion????

Hi:

I have a situation where i have a number, such as "6", in an alphabetic defined field. I
need to convert that "alpha" number to a numeric so that I can use it to refer to an ID in
a table. Can someone please give me the right way to make that conversion, please?

Thank you very much.

John:

You can use the CLng(AlphaField) function which converts text to a long
integer.

John:

You can also try the Val(AlphaField) function if you have text AND
numbers in the same field and only want to get the numeric values of
any numbers in the text. For example, the following returns the value
1615198:

Val(" 1615 198th Street N.E.")

Use the CLng mentioned in my previous post if your text has ONLY
numbers, use this one if it has any text with the numbers because the
CLng will throw an error if the whole string can't be converted to a
number.

Thanks a lot. Some of these commands are NOT intuitive!
