Deploying Data Access Pages (DAPs) via RDS in 3-tier environment

Anyone out there successfully deployed Data Access Pages, on a server
they do not control, using RDS in a 3-tier environment? If so I would
like to hear about your success.

From my reading, RDS is not widely available on commercial servers due
to security issues advised by Microsoft (see prior posts). I have done
it successfully in a two tier environment - which (according to
Microsoft) is where the page is on a server, but the access to the
database is via a LAN environment or on the same PC as is displaying
the page in a browser. This caused me to "think" the DAP was working
fine on the server, when in fact it was 2-tier and accessing the
Access/Jet database on my PC which I was using to display the web page
from the 3rd party server.

Again, just on the off chance that what I have read is not accurate, or
my interpretation of what I have read is inaccurate, I would welcome
hearing anyone's experience in 3-tier DAPs. If you have done so, please
advise that 1) the server is from a 3rd party not controlled by you; 2)
the PC displaying the internet app is not on a LAN containing the database.

Thanks.

RDS in a two tier environment is where the
RDS Server object connects to an ADO object.

The RDS client object, Server object, and ADO
object don't count as tiers: they are just
conduits. The two tiers are the presentation
layer (HTML) and the data layer (SQL Server).

RDS in a three tier environment is where the
RDS Server connects to an "Active X" DCOM
object written by you, instead of connecting
directly to an ADO object. Your "Active X"
object contains additional business logic.

i think that DAPs friggin rock and i'd love to help when I can.

from what I understand; 3 tier jsut has to do with 'use remote
provider' it's nowhere near as complex as COM+ or MTS right?
