Increment a table field value by 1 - SQL fails to do so

MLH
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong in this query?

UPDATE tblEventsSituationsIncidents SET
tblEventsSituationsIncidents.ES01 = [ES01]+1;

I'm trying to update the value in table field [ES01]
and am unsure why my SQL logic isn't doing it.

What a bozo! Am sorry. I didn't have a record
in the table. All the default field values were
zero. Opening the table, I mistook all the default
values showing zero as a record when there
really wasn't one. I ADDED one and the SQL
works fine. My mistake.
