Users being locked out, unable to open file

I have an access 2000 database that approximately 5 people access. The
data is in a separate file from the program files. Everyone accesses
the same program file from a network drive.

There are times when some can't open the main program file if someone
is already in the program. This only happens about 1-2 times a week
but it definitely is an issue. Any ideas what may be causing this?
I'm assuming putting a separate version of the program on each
individual machine will probably eliminate this issue but am hoping I
don't need to do this.

I do have an autoexec macro on startup that opens the main form. I
don't know if that could have any implications?

Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

Thanks

Do all users have full permissions to the folder where the app resides?
(they need it for LDB management).

Have had this problem too many times to count. What I finally did was
created a batch file (gave each person a shortcut) to copy the file to
each local machine on startup. Each person will therefore run their own
front end while using the same back end.

Won't need to worry about upgrades/changes, "IF" batch file always
copies from network and replaces local version, user will be running
most current copy.

Depending on what you are running in the macro, it could be the code
locking up the DB until execution is completed.

NB..
Must have reliable network or they'll be screaming...... :o)

Good Luck,
