Have a situation with a network based back end and iscrete front ends
on individual work stations.
When a user tries to open a query already in use - obviously there is a
lock in place - is ther a way to identify the locking user to the
locked out user?
Would it make any difference if the front end resided in a central
network location?
Can a message be sent to other users if an object has been locked?
Am I asking for too much?
It is not clear whether you are talking about the design of the query or the
results of the query (the records returned). Normally, it is the front end
which holds the queries and the design of them is fixed when you design the
database - so you should never have people locking each other out of the
design.
As to the data, locks are not normally put on the data (so called optimistic
locking) you assume there will not be any update conflicts, but if there
are, you catch them as and when they happen.
If you post back, you should mention which version of Access, as this can
make a difference when you are talking about multi-user updates to an mdb
file.
