Transferspreadsheet File Name Limit

Hi

Does anyone know why there seems to be a file name limit of 60
characters in Transferspreadsheet. I am exporting some records and this
is giving me severe grief.

I keep getting a message stating that the database object is read only,
which it is not. At first I thought there was a problem with the code,
but have ruled this out. I then believed I had a permissions problem in
the operating system, which I have also ruled out.

On experimenting I found I could save the file to some folders but not
others and then stumbled across the fact it was the length of the
path/file that was the problem.

Anybody got any ideas how to get around this one?

Many thanks

Tim:

I am using Access 2003, and I am able to export using the
TransferSpreadsheet method with file names greater than 60 characters.
Since you are exporting, you will need write permissions on the directory
where the workbook is located. You may want to post your code, as well as
what version of Access you are using.

What extension is on the filename you are exporting? The error
message you're vaguely reporting is one that can occur when you use
one of the non-allowed file extensions.

Hi David

It is Access 97

The code is as follows:

DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel97,
"qry_DriverExport", strFileName

strFileName gets passed the file name from a dialog box when the user
chooses the location to save the file and enters a file name.

Kind regards
Tim
