matching with duplicate references

Hi! Wonder if anyone can help?

I have two tables I need to link in a query with a record for each
unique reference.

Table A has unique references (circa 150,000 records) each with a level
of detail.

Table B has the same references but some are duplicated (total records
circa 170,000) and contains different detail.

The output I require is a single record detail from table B (don't mind
which record is picked where duplicated) attached to the unique
references in table A.

Is this possible in a single query or do I have to take the unique ones
first then separately strip out the duplicates to get one record for
each reference and append to the first query result.

Many thanks in advance, DJP
