Locate folders & files on network server through form....

Hi,

This seems impossible to me. I've read tons of posts, but I just cannot
fathom it out.
I have a form for our range of products.
There are four fields (text) which need to be filled with an image
name.

On our server (also in our office), I have an asp web application
running for our clients via the installed MySQL db.
On this server within the wwwroot folder is a folder containing all the
photos of our products. For each product there a four photos (hence 4
fields). I basically store the path to the image in the field, not the
image itself.

I entered this path in the fields for one record manually whith MySQL
open:

/photos/ProductA/0015lrs.jpg
When my asp pages run, this pulls up the relevant photo.

Obviously, I cannot expect admin staff to open mysql every time. They
need to be able to locate new images from the access front end.

What I require on my MS Access form is a button to open the photos
directory, so I can then navigate to the correct product folder, open
that, and then select the correct image. All I require is the image
name to be dumped into the relevant text box. Also next to each text
box is another button with which we need to be able to view that
particular image which resides on our server.

Can this be done with MS Access 2003 ?

Thanks

David Gordon

Why not use a standard file/open dialog? Here is some code:

And bookmark that site!

Showing the image can perhaps be done in a suitable image control on
your form (I say "suitable" because the built-in one may not be able
to display all your file formats), or you can ask Windows to display
it in the file viewer for the given extension. To do this, use the
ShellExecute api, with the "OPEN" verb. Here is a link:

Thanks Tom,

I have looked at this but keep getting errors about public this and
that.

How and where do I place each piece of the whole code.
I want to be able to press a button, select a file and store the
filename in a variable for use.

Thanks

David
