Get MS Outlook Version Info

Is there a way to get the version of Outlook currently installed
without using automation to extract it? I have the following code that
does it with automation:

Dim objOutlook As Object
Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
GetOutlookVersion = objOutlook.Version

Thanks,
lq

you could look at info in the registry, but that gets tricky on systems
where more than one version of outlook is installed

what is the problem with the automation code you currently have ?

The automation code does get the Outlook version correctly including
major and minor version numbers, but if the user cannot run automation
form any reason (such as the user isn't the local admin on the client
workstation) then automation fails.
