Digital Signatures

Hi All,

My company has recently migrated from NT to Xp and in the process from
Access 97 to 2003.
One minor problem (but major annoyance) we are encountering is the Security
Warning when you open Access databases in 2003.
I have found out that it can be removed by adding a Digital Signature which
you can create with the Office Tools.
The problem is that although this solves the problem on my own computer it
doesn't for other users.
They get a different security warning saying that the file is digitally
signed and showing the name of the signature, but the "always trust content
from this source" box is disabled.

I have a snneaking suspision that this is our company's IT policy rather
than anything else but it could also be because I have done something wrong.

If anyone can shed some light on things I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

John

My understanding is the the "self-made certificates" work exactly as you
describe (only on your own PC). For certificates to work elsewhere you
actually have to purchase them from a third party that deals with such
things.

Otherwise they can go to their menus and set macro security to Low (which is
what I do).

I'm looking at the EXACT same conversion some day soon (if IT can
figure out the costs/benefits of converting from an 8 year old app).
From what I've read, I'm thinking it sounds like an IT policy/profile

security thing.

This may be of some help to you:

Thanks Rick,
I was coming to the same conclusion myself.
I find it highly annoying that my company can't create an in-house
certificate without paying more money out.
So far I have found almost no advantages to switching from Access 97 to
Access 2000+.
If it was up to me I'd switch back (but unfortunately it's not).
Otherwise they can go to their menus and set macro security to Low (which

Would love to but thats yet another feature which our IT department have
kindly disabled.

Oh well, I'll learn to live with it.
