I am running MS-Access 2003 on Win2K (with service packs installed) and
keep getting a message telling me that if I don't install Jet SP8, then
certain VBA functions won't work.
I downloaded and installed the SP and restarted the PC but I still keep
getting this message. I then checked in the control panel and see that,
yes, the SP is installed. But I still get the message.
Can anyone help me with this?
And I notice that, although I am running a 1.4 GHz PC with over half a
Gb of RAM, MS-Access seems to have a 'time lag' which is extremely
irriating when I am trying to move objects around on forms (Arrgghh!).
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it MSA? Or maybe it's because I
am using an optical mouse? Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi, Alan. I am running MS-Access 2003 on Win2K (with service packs installed) and keep getting a message telling me that if I don't install Jet SP8, then certain VBA functions won't work.
Don't believe this baloney. Being advised what the requirements are is no
indication that you do not meet these requirements. This situation is akin
to the following scenario:
A police officer informs you that a valid drivers license is required in
order to operate a motor vehicle on a public highway. Would you assume that
your current drivers license is invalid and immediately apply for a new
drivers license so that you can drive your vehicle? Of course not. You
realize that you already meet the requirements, so you need take no further
action to comply with the law.
Likewise, you must realize that Access 2003 already meets the application
security-related requirements because it comes with Jet 4.0 SP-8, and that
the "Help" message you are reading is intended for Access 2002 users whose
original application didn't come with Jet 4.0 SP-8. The "Help" information
given is relevant to those users because they must take action if they want
the security-related features available with Jet 4.0 SP-8.
You must also realize that you will _always_ get this message because you
have agreed to accept the recommended security settings for Access 2003.
For more information, please see the following Web pages: http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...d68ade9?hl=en& http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...225981033.aspx http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...CH790018001033
MS-Access seems to have a 'time lag' which is extremely irriating when I am trying to move objects around on forms (Arrgghh!).
This can be due to a number of reasons, such as a slow video card (or a
video card with very little built-in memory), or too many controls (50+ is
often considered a "busy" form) needing to be painted on the form (even the
ones that aren't visible, but overlapped by other controls), or too many
objects in the database, or a large database file, or a bloated database
file that needs to be compacted, or modifying the form on a workstation that
is connected to the database file located on a computer across the network,
or a background image on the form, or other memory-hog applications running
in the background, et cetera.
Or maybe it's because I am using an optical mouse?
I seriously doubt it, but you may test your theory by swapping with a
conventional mouse.

Excellent! Many thanks for the very compreshensive reply. I will check
these things out and am sure that I'll get to the bottom of my problems.

Alan.
You're welcome! You may want to check your computer's system clock while
you're at it, too.
