Query Criteria linked to form

I'm trying to write a query in Access 2. what will search a database
for a field on a form.

If the field on the form is blank I want it to return any value, but if
the field is not blank I want it to return only the value of the field.
I've written the following criteria but Access says too difficult to
evaluate. Is something like this possible.

IIf([Forms]![formSearch]![last_Name] Is Null,"*",
([Forms]![formSearch]![last_Name])
Thanks

Try this as your criteria instead;

Like "*" & [Forms]![formSearch]![last_Na*me] & "*"
