Password Backend

I have a backend on the server, each user has a front end on their Local
drives. I am about to give the backend a database password. I do not have
MS security on the database and at the moment anyone can open the backend
and see/edit all the tables. Is a database password recommended? Are there
any speed issues when the FE connects?
The other thing is the only way I can see to relink the tables once I have
put a password on the BE, is to go into the FE and File/Get External
Data/Link tables, enter password, link the tables I need and then delete the
1 and rename them - is there a better way? Using Access 97

Thanks

Matt

Recommended? It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. So:
what are you trying to achieve with the db password?
