Repairing when not broken

P: n/a
Everyweek I compact the backend of our database, I only ever repair if the
"database needs to be repaired". Does repairing even if the database
doesn't need to be repaired actually do anything? and is it worth doing this
before compacting on my BE or FE's?

Thanks
