Invalid Argument (OLE Objects)

I have several OLE bound boxs that contain pictures (linked to a network
folder containg the pictures).
It's setup to simply double click blank OLE boxes and create/insert (from
the network folder) linked pictures for respective records.
That works fine.
But now and then I get the "invalid argument" message box which simply
prevents me from inserting or saving any more pictures. I tried to restart
Access and and even the computer as well, but with no success. The message
appears again. At one stage I simply changed the refresh time interval in
TOOLS OPTIONS Advanced tab to make the refresh rate of any changes faster.
That kinda worked, but in a few days, the pesky invalid message came up
again.
My settings in the advanced tab section of the TOOLS OPTIONS area are as
follows:
-DDE Operations - "Enable DDE refresh" is ticked
-All the refresh rates have like only 1 sec interval refresh time.
-Open Mode is set to Shared.
-Default Record Locking - "no locks" is ticked.
-"Open databases using record-level locking" is ticked.

Any help would be appreciated.
