All:
I'm aware that there are password "crackers" out there for all the
versions of access. Obvioulsy, it is possible to brute-force /
dictionary attack any of the versions of Access. What I'm looking for
is information that the method of securing database password in Access
has improved since A '97. (Also looking for information discussing
whether later versions Access can enforce a requirement to use stronger
(non-dictionary) passwords.)
Background is that we have a legacy A'97 database using whole database
encryption, used on laptops. It's scheduled for a full re-write, but
not for another year. My manager believes that the the password
encryption technique was "improved" after '97 to require force
brute-force techniques to reveal passwords, instead of easier method,
so as an interim step would like the developers to convert their
application to use Access XP.
I did try to search for this info, but all I seem to come up with is
info on services offering to defeat the password protection. Any
references to my specific request would be greatly appreciated.
