ODBC Drivers error '80040e14' Syntax error (missing operator)

P: n/a
I'm not a programmer but it's my job to solve this. Can someone help me
with this error message?

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e14'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Syntax error (missing
operator) in query expression 'auctionid ='.

/Mediator/AgentSetup.asp, line 71

* * * * * * * * * *
This is the code:

Response.Redirect("/Mediator/TheMediator.asp?MediatorSessionId=" &

ms.MediatorSessionId & "&action=notifyParticipants")

case else

'get the item description based on the address
sql = "SELECT * FROM " & ptype & " WHERE auctionid = " & ppty
*Line 71 set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")
rs.Open sql, "DSN=Auction"
itemDescription = rs("Address1") & " " & rs("city") & ", " &

rs("state") & " " & rs("zip")
rs.Close
set rs = nothing%>

Thanks,

Charles

First, get a programmer to help you. Second, have her make sure
auctionid is something like 'integer' and not a 'varchar' (likely) or
whatever your backend uses for Long instead of Text. Then have her try
commenting out your sql and rs lines to see if ppty has a value:

case else
'get the item description based on the address
'sql = "...
'set rs = ...
'rs.Open sql, ...
'itemDescription = ...
itemDescription = "ppty = *" & ppty & "*"
'rs.Close
'set rs = nothing
%>

See what shows up on your browser. If ppty has a value, have her set
itemDescription to the sql string and try running that string in your
backend's equivalent to Enterprise Manager to debug.
