Jet 4.0 not appearing in references

I just installed Office 2K3 Pro (except for Outlook, Publisher, and
PowerPoint) on the same computer with Office 2K. With macro security
set to Medium, I get the infamous "unsafe expressions are not
blocked..." dialogs; but when I tried to make sense out of what I'm
learning about sandbox mode, etc., I discovered that my VBA References
do not include Jet 4.0--only 3.6. I registered msjet40.dll
successfully, but it still doesn't show up in the references list.
When I try to add it manually using the add reference dialog, it just
tells me "cannot add reference". So how do I turn on Sandbox (if I
even want to) if I can't refer to Jet 4?

There is no "Jet" reference that shows in the References dialog, never has
been as best as I can remember. For the DAO reference, 3.6 is the correct
one. Make sure you've installed SP8 for Jet 4. If you've install SP2 for
WinXP, you have it already.

As far as sandbox goes, see if this link will help.

Thanks! That clears that up.
OK -- so the question I have is, why does Access 2K3 keep telling me
that I need to download Jet 4 SP 8, when I already have the most
recent version (4.0.8618.0)? That's what confused me about the
references. Also, when I clicked on the link in the warning messages,
I learned that the version on the website was older than the one I
currently have installed! So far, the only way I've figured out to
avoid those "unsafe" messages is to set macro security to Low, which
probably is not a good idea...

Now to research about "sandboxes"....

Actually, you've found the method I believe most of us are using (setting it
to Low). Placing the setting at Low is the same as where it has been prior
to Access 2003.

There have been a few reports of Access not recognizing SP 8 properly if
WinXP SP2 was installed first. The only answer I heard was to uninstall the
WinXP SP, install the Jet SP, then reinstall the WinXP SP. It's probably not
worth the trouble.

Also, one of the possible messages that pops up can be very misleading
unless you read it carefully. Initially, it sounds as if you need SP8, but
it is actually saying something slightly different. I don't remember the
exact wording.
